Two EPM alumni awarded the Doornbos Memorial Prize
Dr. Felix Gerick, and Dr. Daria Holdenried-Chernoff, were awarded the Doornbos Memorial Prize at the SEDI meeting.
Two doctoral graduates of the EPM group, Dr. Felix Gerick and Dr. Holdenried-Chernoff, were awarded the Doornbos Memorial Prize at the biennial meeting of the Committee on Studies of the Earth's Deep Interior (SEDI), at Great Barrington, Massachusetts, USA.
The Doornbos Memorial Prize is presented to young scientists by the SEDI committee for outstanding work on the Earth's deep interior. It is given in honor of the Dutch seismologist, Durk Doornbos.
Dr. Felix Gerick, currently postdoctoral researcher at Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES) in Toulouse, was recognized for "key contributions in characterising and identifying the signature of rapid magneto-Coriolis waves in temporal variations of the geomagnetic field, opening the way to infer properties of the magnetic field within the core." Dr. Daria Holdenried-Chernoff, currently postdoctoral researcher at University of California, Berkeley, was recognized for "innovative and rigorous approaches to building stochastic geomagnetic models that can be used to provide physical insight into both long and short term behavior of the geomagnetic field, and with potential additional applications to other planets." They received the prize along with Dr. Laura Cobden (University of Utrecht) and Dr. Fred Wilson (University of Leeds).
Congratulations to Felix and Daria!
