Electromagnetic Induction Studies
We measure, model and interpret natural electromagnetic signals of oceanic, ionospheric and magnetospheric origins and extract information about electrical conductivity of the Earth at different scales, ranging from local to the global. Bringing this together with mineral physics, geodynamics and state-of-the-art numerical modeling tools, we obtain new knowledge on the composition and thermal state of the Earth’s and other planets’ interiors, image geothermal fields, perform space weather hazard evaluation, and improve models of ionospheric and magnetospheric current systems.
This research is led by Prof. Alexey Kuvshinov
We also run and support a number of permanent geomagnetic observatories.
