Magnetic Anisotropy and Rock Deformation

We have been involved in a number of projects over the past 30 years to better understand how mineral fabric controls the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility in rocks. Research has involved developing techniques to isolate the contribution of ferrimagnetic, antiferromagnetic, paramagnetic and diamagnetic contributions to the bulk magnetic anisotropy of minerals and rocks, using high-field torsion magnetometry.

Numerous researchers from throughout the world have come to use our instrument. We are also interested in modelling magnetic fabrics based on mineral fabrics.
